Objectives:

The principal objectives of the Consortium are:
(a) Improve the visibility of Purdues total capabilities in
materials research to government funding agencies, industry, and prospective
faculty and students.
(b) Promote and support the development of new multidisciplinary programs
in materials research.
(c) Establish mechanisms that will improve the accessibility to existing
unique instrumentation and improve the acquisition of new instrumentation
that will improve Purdues capabilities in materials research.
(d) Organize a series of seminars that will bring to Purdue University
renowned researchers in materials science and engineering.
(e) Evaluate current materials courses to ensure that the needs of
industry are being met.
Status:
This initiative was started during the 1996-1997 academic year and currently
consists of an Executive Committee, a Steering Committee, an Oversight
Committee and four working committees:
Marketing Committee
Scope: Design and develop marketing materials and a WWW home page
for the consortium. Materials should address industry and government
sponsors, prospective faculty and students, and internal constituents
at large.
Chair:
Facilities and Equipment Committee
Scope: Develop mechanisms that will expand accessibility to laboratories
and special instrumentation to consortium members for collaborative
research; establish criteria for an annual equipment competition
that will support multidisciplinary research under the consortium;
and identify future facilities and equipment needs within the
community.
Chair: Prof. Srinivasan Chandrasekar |
Seminar Committee
Scope: Define and initiate a seminar series of renowned materials
researchers who would broadly interest consortium members and
others.
Chair:
Education Committee
Scope: Define and inventory materials related courses and assess
them. Outreach to industry to evaluate and meet educational needs.
Chair: Prof. Steve Durbin |
